Flash Pasteurization

The Flash Pasteurization System (FPS) gently pasteurizes beer, beer mix drinks and carbonated beverages. The product is first regeneratively heated and then heated to the pasteurization temperature via a hot water circuit. After passing the holding pipe, the product is cooled down regeneratively and further cooled with glycol or ice water.

The process is well established in the brewing and beverage industry in order to guarantee a long shelf life with consistent high product quality. The product is microbiologically stabilized while maintaining the required pasteurization units without negatively affecting quality characteristics such as color and taste. The high operational reliability and the high heat recovery of up to 95 % are further advantages of our flash pasteurization system.

Advantages and functions

  • Very gentle pasteurization of beer and carbonated beverages
  • Exact control of programmed pasteurization units (PU)

  • Compact tubular-frame system (skid mounted)

Technical Description

The product is first regeneratively heated and then heated to the pasteurization temperature via a hot water circuit. Temperature and flow rate are controlled in relation to each other in order to keep the pasteurization units within very narrow limits. After passing the holding pipe, the product is cooled down regeneratively and further cooled with glycol or ice water

The two centrifugal pumps in serial arrangement in the inlet of the system keep the product pressure well above the saturation pressure at pasteurization temperature; the contained CO2 remains completely in solution. Due to the third booster pump between regeneration and heater, the pressure in the pasteurized product is always higher than in the non-pasteurized product in order to avoid contamination due to leakage. If the filler stops, a controlled product discharge with degassed water takes place by means of media separation by volume or conductivity. If filling runs up again, the deaerated water is discharged again with the product.

The unit can be controlled by a local PLC with a touch panel or by a process control system.
Designed for high hygienic standards, all common cleaning agents in the brewing and beverage industry can be used for CIP cleaning.
